Mohamad and Lahcen Ahansal
Mohamad Ahansal and his brother Lahcen started running in their home town of Zagora as children. Running was the only way they had to get somewhere fast. Growing up as children of a nomadic family they went to school by foot and when they started to enter into races, discovered that they both has enormous potential as long distance runners.
They entered the Marathon des Sables which was taking place in their region and over many editions have been first and second place it 15 times!
The family origins are in the high Atlas mountains and after many years of running in races organised by others, decided to create their own foot race which starts in the village that carries their own name, Zaouiat Ahansal.
